Seeding etiquette for large models

An index is only as good as its swarms. Model torrents have an unusual shape — huge files, bursty demand around releases, then a long quiet tail — and that tail is where seeding matters most.

The basics

• Seed to at least 2.0 on anything you download. On release-day swarms this can take an hour; on old models it may take months. Leave the torrent loaded.
• Rare beats popular. One seeder on a forgotten model is worth more than your hundredth seat on a Llama release. Sort your client by seed count; keep the rare stuff.
• Cap upload sensibly, not at zero. 80% of your uplink keeps your own connection usable and the swarm fed.

Disk strategy

Models are big but cold — perfect for spinning disks. A cheap 8 TB drive seeds hundreds of models. Point your client's completed-download folder at it and forget it.

For labs and creators

If you release weights, you have the original bytes and (usually) real bandwidth. Running a permanent seed on your own release costs almost nothing and makes the magnet in your model card genuinely reliable. Consider a seedbox as part of release infrastructure, like a CDN line item that rounds to zero.

Client settings that help

• Enable DHT, PEX, and local peer discovery — model swarms are often trackerless.
• Raise per-torrent connection limits for release-day swarms.
• Schedule unlimited upload overnight if your ISP has peak-hour caps.
